What in your opinion is the best CUV thingy? My mother is planning for the future when she can get something. She wants something bigger she can carry stuff (and a dog) in but she thinks wagons are ugly. She is thinking Audi or Volvo but is probably open to suggestions.

Nah... our neighbor has one.

Easy answer: 2003-06 Matrix XRS/Vibe GT. Awesome 2ZZ engine and reliable Corolla shit in a crossover body.
Other good ones:
HHR SS
Caliber SRT4 (basically a FWD Evo)
PT Cruiser GT (a Neon SRT4 in a PT body), and it was even available as a convertible (eat THAT, Nissan CrossCabrio :p )
Suzuki Vitara/Chevy Tracker
Suzuki SX4
Scion XA and first-gen XB
Have her check out the 2001-04 Volvo V40. Very nice-looking wagon.

Not the one with the spindly grille. The previous one ˆ

I may be a bit biased...

Only one of those is a CUV...

I'd say go for the Q3 or Q5.
I don't think you can go wrong either way.

BMW X1, I drove one in Germany and it was a pleasant surprise, in the end its basically 3 series wagon that's been lifted a bit

That's a ton of horrible cars imo :p She currently has an '04 S40 and I'm trying to get her into a newer C30 but she thinks it's a young kid's car.

They're all CUV's except the Tracker and perhaps the Scions are a bit small for that category.
The other choices all fit the CUV profile, being relatively tall and small, and probably any of them will have what she's looking for.
(never mind, just saw another reply she has an S40)

Your whole list ….

They're hatchbacks with no extra ground clearance or AWD.
My mom drives an 03 Lincoln LS, but that has nothing to do with anything.

Your neighbor chose well. Ecoboost Flex all the way.

Subie Ob or Foz

They're awesome. Stop the hate :)
Cool she already has an S40! Is it the Mitsubishi or the Focus? 2004 was a transition year for the S40, and both generations were sold in 04.
The C30 does seem a bit small for what she's looking for.
Honda should have the HRV ready by the time she's ready to buy.

2004.5 so I think the ford based one. She loves the car, it's been crazy reliable for us,

yeah whoops, just saw you posted that and not the OP, sorry for the error, just redacted that part.
But crossovers themselves are just hatchbacks, and in many cases with no extra ground clearance or AWD.

Why not Tribeca?

the issue is finding a Tribeca. Not many people bought them here, and now that they are discontinued, they are even harder to find.

Yup, that's the Mk2 Focus/Mazda 3. Glad it has been reliable. How many miles on it?

That Mazda looks great! Why not that?
Being me (and because I love them) I feel the need to say GLA.

That's one of the ones I suggested. I'd much rather have her in a Mazda than in a Honda or Toyota. Hell, let's just go with the GLA 45 AMG.
